The Moment

When the desert turns to fire

There's a reason the last hour of daylight is called golden. As the sun drops behind Four Peaks, the heat softens, the saguaros glow, and the whole desert lights up in color you have to see to believe. You'll drive straight into it — open-air, wind in your hair, camera ready.

This is the same legendary trail by day, transformed. Cooler air, dramatic light, and the kind of sky that ends up framed on your wall.

Why Ride at Dusk

Golden-hour color photographs like nothing else — and your action photos are free, every tour.

The desert comes alive

Dusk is when the Sonoran wakes up — coyotes, jackrabbits and desert birds are out as the light turns gold.

Skies of red, gold & purple

Watch the horizon shift through every warm color over the Sonoran Desert.

Wildlife at dusk

Saguaros, jackrabbits, bobcats and the wild Salt River mustangs come alive at sundown.

Scottsdale sunset ATV tour FAQs

What riders ask before chasing golden hour.

What time does the Scottsdale sunset ATV tour start?
Start times are set around sunset, so they shift through the year — earlier in winter, later in summer. You’ll see the exact departure time for your date when you check availability, timed so you’re on the trail as the desert lights up.
Do I need experience to drive on a sunset tour?
No experience needed. If you can drive a car, you can drive our 800cc U-Drive buggies. Every ride starts with a full safety briefing and a guide leads the whole route. Drivers must be 16+ with a valid license.
Where does the sunset tour meet — and do you serve Phoenix?
We ride exclusive Tonto National Forest trails just northeast of Scottsdale, an easy drive from Scottsdale, Phoenix, Mesa and Tempe. Exact directions come with your booking; see our maps & directions page.
What should I wear for an evening desert ride?
Bring a light layer — the Sonoran Desert cools quickly once the sun drops. Closed-toe shoes, sunglasses for the drive out, and sunscreen. We provide the machine, helmet, goggles and safety gear.
How much is the sunset tour, and are photos included?
Sunset tours start at $299 for a 2-seat buggy and include your machine, an expert guide, all safety gear, water and snacks, all trail permits, and free adventure photos — and golden hour makes them unforgettable. Check availability & book.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations are handled by phone and must be made at least 48 hours ahead for a refund, less a cancellation fee of $25 per buggy ($50 per buggy on private tours). Cancel within 48 hours for a 50% refund; within 24 hours, or a no-show, there is no refund. Corporate events are non-refundable within 14 days. To cancel, call (480) 837-3966.
